How to Fix Multiple H1 Tags on Webflow
The H1 is the main heading of a page. Page builders often tag several section headings as H1 by accident. Search engines can cope with more than one, but a single clear H1 states what the page is about without ambiguity, and it is the convention most audits check for.
The fix on Webflow
Select each heading element and check the Settings panel - the heading level (H1-H6) is set there. Keep only one H1 per page.
Builder menus change over time. If a label looks different, look for the closest option and check Webflow's help centre.
Why this matters
The H1 tells Google (and AI tools) what the page is fundamentally about. Multiple H1s confuse that signal, like a book with three different titles on the cover.
How to check it worked
- View the page source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) and search for "<h1". Count the matches.
- Run the free Site Check, which reports how many H1 tags it found on the page.
Common questions
Is more than one H1 really a problem?
It is not a penalty. The issue is clarity: one H1 that matches the page topic is the clearest signal, and extra H1s usually mean section headings were set to the wrong level.
Which heading should stay as the H1 on Webflow?
The one that best describes the whole page, usually the main headline near the top. Change the other headings to H2 or H3.
