How to Fix a Page Hidden From Google on WordPress

A noindex tag, a password, or a "hide from search engines" toggle tells Google not to show a page in results. It is often left switched on from when the site was in draft mode, and the page looks completely normal to visitors, which is why it goes unnoticed.

The fix on WordPress

In the post/page editor, check your Yoast or RankMath SEO panel for a "Search Engine Visibility" or "Allow search engines to index this page" setting. Also check Settings > Reading for a site-wide search engine block.

Builder menus change over time. If a label looks different, look for the closest option and check WordPress's help centre.

Why this matters

A noindex tag tells Google to completely ignore this page. It will never appear in search results until this is removed. This is one of the most common silent mistakes on sites built with Wix, Squarespace and similar builders, since the option is sometimes left on from when the site was in draft mode.

How to check it worked

  1. In Google Search Console, paste the page URL into the URL Inspection bar. A result saying the page is excluded by a noindex tag confirms the problem.
  2. Open the page, view its source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) and search for "noindex".
  3. Search Google for site:yourdomain.com/your-page. A brand-new page may simply not be crawled yet, but a page that has been live for weeks and never appears is a warning sign.

Common questions

How long until Google shows my page after I fix this on WordPress?

Google has to crawl the page again. In Search Console you can use URL Inspection and request indexing to speed that up, but it can still take days to weeks.

Does hiding one page hurt the rest of my site?

Not directly. The setting applies only to the page (or pages) it is switched on for. A site-wide setting, such as a password or a site-level hide option, affects every page.
